Septic System Installation

Every new septic system starts with a $650 soil morphology test, which tells us which type of system your property needs. A full septic system replacement averages around $20,000, and we give you a firm number after we look at the property.

System Types

Conventional or Engineered

We install complete conventional and engineer-designed systems for new builds and replacements. The soil test decides which one your property needs.

Good soil
Conventional

Completely gravity fed, built for areas with good soil.

Tough soil or tight space
Engineered

Designed by an engineer using two tanks (one septic, one pump). Used where soil is rocky or clay-like, or where space is limited.

Engineered options
ATU, Drip, LPP

Aerobic treatment units, drip dispersal and low-pressure pipe systems.

Average replacement
Around $20,000

A firm number comes after we look at the property.

Step by Step

How a Septic Installation Goes

Every septic installation is different, but the steps are the same. We walk you through each one.

  1. Soil morphology test: $650

A soil scientist evaluates your soil to determine which type of system your property needs. We can take care of that for you. It's required before any new septic system.

  2. Site visit

We set up an appointment to view your septic site, then give you a firm number for your system.

  3. Permit

We guide you through permitting the system with your county.

  4. Install

We set the tank or tanks and build the field or dispersal system designed for your site.

  5. Inspection

We take the system through your county's inspection process and get it finished.

Before You Replace

Replacing a Failing System?

If the problem is a lateral field that stopped taking water, the whole system may not need to go. Lateral field jetting starts at $1,800, and about 95% of the fields we've jetted have come back to working order. It's not a guarantee, but it's worth asking about first.

After your system is in, a Septic Care Plan keeps it maintained on a schedule. The enrollment fee is waived on systems Burns Septic installed.

Please note: We do not install septic systems in Kansas City, MO.

Good Questions

Septic Installation FAQ

What is the process of getting a new septic system installed?

First thing you'll need to do is get your soil tested — we can take care of that for you, a soil morphology test is $650. Then give us a call. Every septic installation is different, so we'll set up an appointment to view your septic site and then guide you step-by-step through your personal process.

How much does a new septic system cost?

It varies depending on the size and type of system and the conditions on the property, but a full septic system replacement averages around $20,000. A straightforward site can come in under that; difficult soil, tight access or an engineered system can run above it. We give you a firm number after we look at the property.

Other factors include local regulations and permitting fees, excavation costs, and materials such as pipes, tanks and gravel. Regular maintenance and pumping are also necessary to keep the system working and avoid costly repairs later.

What kinds of septic systems do you install?

Conventional gravity systems and engineered systems, including aerobic treatment units, drip dispersal and low-pressure pipe. A conventional system is completely gravity fed and built for areas with good soil. An engineered system is designed by an engineer using two tanks (one septic, one pump), and it's used where soil is rocky or clay-like or where space is limited.
